Why did you choose Creative Business at BUas?
Taris: ‘I chose Creative Business because I had previously studied mbo Audiovisual Media and was considering continuing my education. Initially, I didn’t know much about BUas, but during my previous studies, I did an internship in Breda, where I met other interns who were BUas students. After hearing about their experiences, I decided to apply for the Creative Business programme. Everyone told me it would be a great fit for me, and I was delighted to be accepted.’
‘Another reason I chose BUas is that I wanted to broaden my network and make new friends in the Netherlands. Among the many institutions offering Creative Business, BUas stands out for its international environment, providing opportunities to meet people from all over the world. Since Creative Business is such a specialised field, I knew I would connect with like-minded individuals who share my interests and passions.‘
Could you share the most interesting part of a school project you’ve been working on?
Taris: ‘During the first semester of my third year, I completed my internship at Transavia Studios. I chose this company for my internship because, from a young age, I had dreamed of becoming a pilot. However, as pilot training was financially out of reach, I pursued filmmaking instead. Despite this, my passion for aviation never faded, and I realised that the creative industry extends into various sectors—including aviation.’
‘While searching for internships on the Mediastages website, I discovered that Transavia Studios was looking for interns. I applied for a production internship and was thrilled to be accepted. Throughout my internship, I managed multiple projects, working not only in video production but also in design. I created posters, flyers, roll-up banners, and even tea box designs. As Transavia’s in-house creative studio, the team handles all of the company’s design-related projects.’
‘One of the most exciting projects I worked on was designing materials for the Crew Event. This project was particularly challenging, as design requests from other departments often came in at the last minute—sometimes just a week before the event. I worked closely with the designer to create eye-catching flyers, posters, booklets and banners. Despite the tight deadlines, seeing everything come together at the event was incredibly rewarding.’
‘I was also involved in several video production projects, including a holiday video, an explainer video, a Health Brand video, and an Employer Brand video. The holiday video was especially memorable, as we had to transport five Christmas trees to different locations, including the hangar, office, and crew centre. The entire shoot lasted only three days, meaning we had to cover three locations per day. A highlight of this project was working with Transavia’s CEO, CFO, and COO, who recorded holiday messages for the video. Meeting and working with them in person was an unforgettable experience.’
‘For the explainer video, I assisted both in pre-production and on set, learning how to coordinate between the studio and the communications team. The Health Brand video was particularly eye-opening, as it focused on Transavia’s mental health initiatives for employees—something I hadn’t realised the company prioritised so highly.’
‘The Employer Brand video was the biggest project I participated in. I assisted in pre-production and was involved on the filming day. This project was especially exciting because it was a collaboration between Transavia Studios and an external production company. Their crew was much larger than ours, and they used advanced equipment I had never seen before, such as a crane for aerial shots and inflatable props for the set. Being part of such a large-scale production was an invaluable learning experience.’
Do you already know what you want to do with your bachelor's degree? Do you have a particular career path in mind?
Taris: ‘When I graduate, I will have many opportunities ahead of me. Since my study programme is broad, I could work at a marketing agency, a film production company, or even in the aviation industry—like during my internship—since many companies now have in-house production studios to reduce marketing costs.’
‘However, my preference would be to work at a production company specialising in documentary filmmaking or within the aviation industry. Aviation has been my childhood dream, and I would love to contribute to this field in a creative capacity. At the same time, I am passionate about documentary filmmaking because I want to bring important, often overlooked stories to the world.’
