Banijay Benelux, home to various content producers, and Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) have joined forces to stimulate innovation in the media world. To kick off this interactive collaboration, Banijay Benelux has challenged 30 students of the Master Media Innovation (MMI) to come up with innovative concepts for the programs: Hunted (SimpelZodiak), Big Brother (EndemolShine Nederland) and LEGO Masters (EndemolShine Nederland).

Recently, the final presentations of the six groups of (inter)national students took place. The concepts presented ranged from a virtual Big Brother house in Roblox, an alternative social media experience and Alternate Reality Game (ARG) for Hunted, to transforming your own neighborhood into LEGO. The winning team came up with a concept to make the existing home assignment of LEGO Masters evem more interesting for the target GenZ audience, and as an additional addition, they presented an AI tool that converts photos directly into LEGO structures.

In addition, the Digital Media Concepts lectureship has launched a Virtual International Collaboration (VIS) involving MMI students, Creative Business students from BUas and more than 80 international Immersive Game students from Queensland University of Technology (QUT, Australia). In this international collaboration, students will work together to design and develop innovative VR or AR games around the previously mentioned programs.

Sil Geurtsen, Head of Program Development at EndemolShine Netherlands: "The creativity and innovative thinking of the BUas students are a source of inspiration for us. The concepts presented are not only innovative and inspiring, but also provide valuable insights for our programs. The power of games and data to reach new target groups help to make our shows even more attractive to a wider audience."

Marnix van Gisbergen, professor of Digital Media Concepts at the Academy for Games & Media of BUas: “This collaboration offers a unique opportunity for the students and Banijay Benelux to learn the necessary 21st Century skills that are needed to combine knowledge from media and games to reach and inspire new audiences with innovative experiences."

As part of its business strategy, Banijay Benelux strives to advance and innovate within the media industry. This collaboration with Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) is a great example of that. The ideas resulting from this collaboration not only promise exciting new experiences for viewers, but also contribute to promoting further innovation within the media sector.
